Man charged with fracturing skull of 67-year-old in fatal Geylang back alley fight

SINGAPORE: After a fight along Geylang Road, a 67-year-old man was taken to the hospital but died after about two weeks.
The alleged attacker, Singaporean Zubir Mohamed, was charged in court on Thursday (Aug 22) with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. 
The 40-year-old is accused of pushing Mr Sivarajoo Pitchay Pillai to the ground in the back alley of 669 Geylang Road and punching his face at about 2.35pm on Aug 3.
As a result, Mr Sivarajoo fractured his skull, the charge sheet indicated.
According to a police statement, Mr Sivarajoo was taken conscious to the hospital, but died from his injuries on Aug 19.
Zubir was later arrested. He has been remanded since Aug 8 and has five other existing charges – mostly of theft.
He allegedly stole items like cashcards, a phone, a bicycle and other valuables in Bedok and Chai Chee in June and July.
He is also accused of criminal breach of trust by pocketing a Casio watch and a ring entrusted to him by another man.
Zubir was ordered to be remanded further for investigations, with permission to be taken to the scene.
He will return to court for a further mention of his case on Aug 29.
If convicted of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, he could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned.
He could be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both for each count of theft.
For criminal breach of trust by misappropriation, he could be jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.
